43 Miles for Galveston Bay: Kuraray America Supports Bike Around the Island 2026
Kuraray America cyclists and volunteers come together for the 2026 Bike Around the Island event, completing a 43-mile ride and supporting participants along the route while raising funds for Galveston Bay Foundation’s conservation efforts.
On October 17, 2026, 21 cyclists from Kuraray America, Inc. (KAI) took on a 43-mile ride with a destination beyond the finish line: a healthier Galveston Bay. Kuraray America returned as a sponsor of the Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF)'s Bike Around the Island, joining the 20th-anniversary celebration of Bike Around the Bay and continuing its support for the Foundation's conservation mission.
Riding for a Healthier Galveston Bay
While the ride lasted just one day, the cause extends throughout the year.
Through initiatives like the River, Lakes, Bays ’N Bayous Trash Bash® and oyster reef monitoring at Sweetwater Nature Preserve, the Galveston Bay Foundation works to protect the Bay's waters, restore coastal habitats, and preserve the region's biodiversity.
Supporting that mission, KAI brought together nine volunteers, alongside participating employees, family members, and friends, and helped raise more than $8,300 for GBF's conservation efforts.
These efforts reflect Kuraray America's ongoing commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship, supporting initiatives that help protect the natural ecosystems surrounding the communities where employees live and work.
One KAI Team, On and Off the Road
At the second rest stop, KAI volunteers welcomed cyclists to their station, offering encouragement and an opportunity to reconnect before the next stretch of the ride.
For cycling team captain Diana Maya, the stop became a meaningful moment of teamwork and connection.
"Riders and volunteers bonded as one KAI team: the riders had a few minutes to hang out with the volunteer team at the 2nd stop and cheer each other on. That was my dream." — Diana Maya, KAI Cycling Team Captain
The interaction highlighted how participating employees and volunteers came together not only to support the event but also to encourage one another along the way.
Special thanks go to Diana Maya and Johnny Alvarado, KAI's volunteer lead, for coordinating this year's volunteer participation.
Kuraray America also extends its appreciation to every cyclist, volunteer, employee, family member, and friend who contributed their time, energy, and encouragement to the event.
Beyond the Finish Line: Supporting Long-Term Conservation
The 20th anniversary of Bike Around the Bay marks two decades of bringing cyclists, volunteers, corporate partners, and community members together in support of Galveston Bay.
Kuraray America congratulates the Galveston Bay Foundation on this milestone and is grateful to continue supporting an event that connects community participation with the long-term protection of one of the region's most valuable natural ecosystems.
From cycling 43 miles to volunteering at rest stops and supporting year-round conservation activities, KAI's participation reflects a shared commitment to protecting Galveston Bay for future generations.
