Rising Star: Fenix Alvarez Driving Global Supply Chain Excellence at Kuraray
As we recognize National Supply Chain Day this week, we’re reminded that behind every product delivered on time and aligned with customer expectations is a supply chain professional making it happen.
In celebration of Kuraray's Centennial anniversary in June 2026, Kuraray America, Inc.'s (KAI) 🌟hashtag#RisingStars🌟 series recognizes the next generation of talent keeping the world connected and contributing to the next 100 years. This spotlight features Fenix Alvarez, Senior Supply Chain Specialist at KAI Headquarters, whose work helps keep operations moving smoothly behind the scenes.
Fenix coordinates with global demand planners across Japan, Latin America, and North America, working with warehouse carriers, ocean carriers, and vendor suppliers to keep products moving on time and within KAI's quality standards.
"Supply chain never stands still. Fuel prices shift, ‘tariffs change overnight’, ‘ports unplanned shut down’. Every disruption is a chance to find a better way," Fenix says.
Investing in Employee Growth
With support from KAI’s tuition reimbursement program, she earned her bachelor's degree in information technology from Western Governors University. She also completed Kuraray's DX Silver program where she collaborated with colleagues across the company, including teams from MonoSol, A Kuraray Company and Calgon Carbon Corporation.
Building What's Next
Fenix is currently helping lead the implementation of a new Warehouse Management System (WMS), one of the most significant supply chain initiatives underway at KAI. The project brings third-party vendor services in-house and requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams spanning Houston, Japan, and global SAP operations.
By consolidating multiple systems into a single platform, the initiative aims to eliminate duplication of work across regions and provide the supply chain team faster, more direct control over warehouse operations, thereby reducing response times and improving visibility from plant to customer.
For People and the Planet
Fenix's work contributes to KAI's broader sustainability efforts by improving how shipments move through the supply chain. Through carrier selection and shipping operations, her team helps reduce unnecessary truck traffic and improve transportation efficiency. Her financial background sharpens that focus, helping the team identify cost-saving opportunities that can align with waste reduction.
Looking Ahead
As Kuraray enters its next century, Fenix's goals reflect that same forward momentum:
✔ ️continue growing in supply chain operations,
✔ collaborate across functions and business units,
✔ ️help KAI serve its global customers with even greater efficiency.
