Legacy Voice/International Day of Women and Girls in Science: Andrea Cavalier
As we celebrate our Centennial milestone, we’re honored to launch #LegacyVoices. Our series recognizing the individuals whose dedication, leadership, and lasting contributions have shaped Kuraray America, Inc. and strengthened the broader Kuraray legacy. 👏
Meet Andrea Cavalier, Principal Engineer for our PVOH business unit at our La Porte, TX Plant and one of our Legacy Voice spotlights 📢 . Andrea has spent nearly 30 years at the La Porte site, building a career defined by operational excellence, process safety, and continuous improvement.
Andrea’s fascination with how things were made began in childhood, inspired by Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, and was later shaped by a teacher who encouraged her to pursue chemical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.
Today, that curiosity has grown into a career where she leads and supports process safety management, process and project engineering efforts across multiple Kuraray America facilities, in the Houston Area.
Andrea is passionate about shaping Kuraray's next century by inspiring young women in science. She judges local science fairs, leads Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science (GEMS) events for elementary school girls, and coordinates Kuraray America's involvement in the Economic Alliance Houston Port Region's women's leadership luncheons.
"When you see someone like you in a role, you can see yourself growing into it. Stay inquisitive, ask questions, and stay open to verifying for yourself." she says.
As we celebrated International Day of #WomenInScience and look ahead to #EngineersWeek, we’re proud to celebrate Andrea as part of the Kuraray America team and our Legacy Voices series. Her contributions in science and engineering have helped define Kuraray’s 100 years and continue to shape the innovation still to come.
