Kuraray Highlights MMB and IPD-AC at Cleaning Products US 2026

On Tuesday, September 29, at 1:45 p.m., Kazuya Okumura, Application Development Researcher at Kuraray, presented “Development of Functional Solvents for Household Cleaning Application.”

Kuraray America’s Isoprene Chemicals team sponsored, presented and exhibited at Cleaning Products US 2026, held September 28–30 in Alexandria, Virginia. At Table #2, Will Kang and Shun Okura connected with attendees about functional solvents for household cleaning formulations.

MMB for water-based cleaners
3-Methoxy-3-methyl-1-butanol (MMB) is stable under high pH conditions, making it useful in alkaline, water-based products designed to remove oily soils. Its interaction with nonionic surfactants can help improve solubilization and cleaning performance while raising the cloud point. Potential applications include laundry, kitchen and all-purpose cleaners.

IPD-AC for solvent-based formulations
Isopentyldiol Acetate (IPD-AC), included in Kuraray’s homecare solvent portfolio, was also a focus of the team’s discussions. Kuraray presented it as a new solvent with potential for solvent-based multi-cleaners. In blends with low-polarity solvents, IPD-AC may help improve cleaning performance.

Presentation recap
On September 29, Kazuya Okumura, Application Development Researcher at Kuraray, delivered “Development of Functional Solvents for Household Cleaning Application.” His presentation examined how MMB and IPD-AC can address formulation considerations, including cleaning performance, stability, and solvent selection.
