Back-to-school season brings new schedules and routines, but it does not bring an immediate end to summer heat.

At Kuraray America, Inc., safety is the cornerstone of everything we do, and our safe practices extend beyond the workplace. Through our ongoing commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and Security, we encourage our employees and others in our community to share heat-safety awareness with the students in their lives.

Heat stress is affected by more than temperature alone. Humidity, direct sunlight, physical activity, clothing, and the length of exposure can all increase the strain placed on the body. With students returning to bus stops, athletic practices, marching band rehearsals, and other outdoor activities, it is important to follow practical heat-safety steps recommended by trusted public health resources, including the CDC’s guidance on infants, children and heat and the National Weather Service’s heat safety resources.

☀️ Carry a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated before, during, and after outdoor activity.
☀️ Take rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
☀️ Wear lightweight, breathable clothing.
☀️ Gradually adjust to strenuous activity in the heat.
☀️ Encourage children to look out for friends and speak up if they or someone around them begins to feel unwell.

Safety does not stop at the site. By sharing what we know and looking out for one another, we can help our coworkers, families, and communities begin the school year safely. This reflects Kuraray America’s broader commitment to Responsible Care, community engagement, and a safety culture that supports people both inside and outside our facilities.
