Kuraray Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hitoshi Kawahara; hereinafter “Kuraray”) hereby announces its decision to discontinue production of Vecstar™ FCCL flexible copper clad laminates.
Vecstar™ FCCL, a line of composite laminates incorporating Vecstar™—Kuraray’s propriety liquid crystal polymer film—coated with copper foil, was designed with high-frequency characteristics suitable for high-speed transmission circuits and high-frequency electronic devices.
Since launching Vecstar™ FCCL production at our Kashima Plant (Kamisu City, Ibaraki Prefecture) in 2019, we have worked diligently to expand the business. However, a persistently challenging business environment due to slower-than-anticipated growth in the 5G-related millimeter-wave band market we were targeting led us to conclude that it would be difficult to secure the level of profitability needed to maintain stable production.
We plan to discontinue production by the end of June 2026, after continuing the manufacturing of required products for our business partners who handle Vecstar™ FCCL. Details regarding after-sales services will be communicated to each business partner individually.
We extend our wholehearted gratitude to our business partners and other stakeholders for their longstanding patronage of our Vecstar™ FCCL business and sincerely ask for their understanding.
Furthermore, we will continue the production and sale of Vecstar™ liquid crystal polymer film at our Saijo Plant (Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture), as we work to broaden its range of applications.
