Kuraray Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "Kuraray" or "the Company") announces its decision to revise prices of the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) resin KURARAY POVAL and the vinyl acetate-based cutting-edge water soluble synthetic resin EXCEVAL, commencing with shipments from August 20, 2008.

Impacted by the surge in raw material and fuel costs resulting from high crude oil and naphtha prices, Kuraray revised prices to ¥40 per kilogram on July 1. However, the rising cost of such principal raw materials as vinyl acetate monomer, which is attributed to continuing high crude oil and naphtha prices, has significantly undermined the effect of previous price revisions and cost reduction efforts. In addition, increases in overall expenses, including the cost of utilities and distribution, have accelerated the deterioration of operating revenue.

Given these factors, and in order to maintain a steady supply and improve profitability, Kuraray has decided to implement price revisions, as detailed below.
