Citral, for example, offers a fresh lemon fragrance - and it is also one of the most important raw materials for the production of a wide range of aroma chemicals with the scent of oranges or lilies. In addition to citral, our portfolio includes isoprenol, isovaleraldehyde and prenol. These substances can be converted into a variety of authentically scented flavors - from blueberries and blackberries to coffee, tomatoes, grapes and even white bread.

Citral (3.7-dimethyl-2.6-octadienal) is a pale yellow liquid with a lemony aroma. This chemical is found in concentrated form in lemongrass, lemon tea-tree, and lemon balm. It is used in many fragrance compositions where a lemon fragrance is required. Citral is also used as the basis for producing other aroma chemicals and vitamin A.

Isovaleraldehyde has a strong and unique smell but also works as an aroma chemical offering a dry, fruity, cocoa-like and nutty scent in extreme dilution. It is used as a building block for aroma chemicals and pharmaceutical active ingredients as well as an aroma chemical. This chemical can also be used to produce amino acid for medical applications.

Prenol (3-methyl-2-butene-1-ol) is one of the simplest terpenoids. It is a clear, colourless oil that is reasonably soluble in water and miscible with most common organic solvents. It is a key intermediate for the production of a wide range of artificial aroma chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Prenol has a fruity odour and occurs naturally in citrus fruits, cranberries, bilberries, currants, grapes, raspberries, blackberries, tomatoes, white bread, hop oil, coffee, arctic brambles, cloudberries and passion fruit.

Solvents for household products such as cleaners and air fresheners as well as industrial applications such as coatings and degreasers have to be safe and environmentally compatible. You too can use 3-methoxy-3-methyl-1-butanol (MMB) from Kuraray to make your formulations better and greener.

Solvents play a central role in organic reactions especially when it comes to extracting the organic compound produced. Sometimes the presence of water in the reaction medium can be a real issue as it is the case in Grignard reactions. MTHP from Kuraray is an excellent hydrophobic solvent that can be used to make your organic reactions cleaner, greener and simple.
