Our products enhance the stability of ceramics. KURARAY POVAL™ polyvinyl alcohol and MOWITAL® polyvinyl butyral have high binding power and therefore support the production of ceramic products.

The products listed here generate virtually no combustion residues in the sintering process.

KURARAY POVAL™ ensures good binding of water-based slurries, which are used, for example, to produce sanitary ceramics, technical ceramics, tableware and high-quality tiles. KURARAY POVAL™ is the ideal binder for such applications: it is classified as non-toxic, is excellent for film coating and decomposes at 200 °C. Low-ash grades of KURARAY POVAL™ are also available. The low-ash grades KURARAY POVAL™ 3-83, 8-88, 18-88 and especially 4-88, and fully hydrolyzed grades such as KURARAY POVAL™ 10-98 are well-established for use in the ceramics industry. They can be used on their own or with up to 10% (based on the PVOH content) of a plasticizer such as glycerol, glycol, trimethylolpropane, neopentyl glycol or polyglycol (up to a molecular mass of 400).

High-performance ceramics for fuel cells, prosthetics, piezo ceramics and electronic components such as inductors, capacitors and resistors are normally produced from solvent-based slurries. MOWITAL® B and SB grades are used for these applications. They have excellent binding properties, are soluble in a wide range of solvents and have a high purity.
