glasstec 2026: Kuraray Showcases a Color-Illuminated Panoramic Car Roof Featuring Trosifol® SkyViera® Film
Kuraray's SkyViera® film brings custom designs to life in panoramic glass roofs in countless colors—on display live at the Kuraray booth at glasstec 2026
Hattersheim/Frankfurt am Main, September 21, 2026. Kuraray, the global specialty chemicals company headquartered in Japan, is highlighting impressive innovations for automotive engineering and architecture at glasstec 2026 in Düsseldorf (October 20–23, 2026, Hall 10/H48). The Trosifol® SkyViera® PVB film is printed with a desired pattern and laminated between two glass panes using standard industry processes. When installed as a panoramic roof in a vehicle, it can then be illuminated. LEDs along the edge of the glass serve as the light source. While the high-resolution patterns remain virtually invisible and translucent when the lighting is off, they glow in any number of colors in the dark—creating a wide variety of changing emotional effects in the interior. The Indian automaker Mahindra, for example, achieves a wide variety of lighting effects by using SkyViera® in panoramic glass roofs. Another glasstec highlight from Kuraray is the SentryGlas Acoustic® interlayer. With this innovation, Kuraray bridges the gap between structural integrity and high noise insulation—all while maintaining a low glass weight.
Glass illumination with intricate designs or subtle gradients
Kuraray’s SkyViera® film technology makes it possible to create dynamic lighting effects in laminated glass roofs. The technology offers automotive designers maximum flexibility. The innovative SkyViera® film enables OEMs to create highly customized lighting experiences with diverse, unique design identities based on a single vehicle model platform. With SkyViera®, it is possible to create both intricate geometric patterns and subtle intensity gradients for smooth transitions in brightness. One example of its successful application in automotive engineering is the so-called “Infinity Roof,” which was developed through a collaboration between Mahindra and Kuraray. Mahindra now equips two model series with this illuminated glass roof based on SkyViera® technology: the BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs.
SentryGlas Acoustic® combines stability, sound insulation, and light weight
The SentryGlas Acoustic® film is another highlight at this year’s Kuraray booth. As a three-layer interlayer, the innovative SentryGlas Acoustic® (SGA® for short) meets architectural requirements that were previously considered incompatible: structural integrity for large-format glass panels—combined with high sound insulation performance. The high sound insulation of Kuraray’s new solution is achieved by an inner SGA® film made of thermoplastic elastomer, just 0.76 mm thick. Kuraray combines this SGA® layer with high-strength outer layers consisting of ionoplastic film materials—either SentryGlas® or SentryGlas Xtra®—on both the top and bottom. These outer films ensure the high structural rigidity of the final laminate between the three-layer film on the inside and the two outer glass layers. The significantly lower weight of the groundbreaking SentryGlas® solution with its SGA® inner layer is the decisive advantage over all conventional approaches. Until now, the combined goal of stability and sound insulation could only be achieved at the expense of very high thicknesses, significantly greater weight, and a correspondingly large carbon footprint. Innovative glass facades featuring SentryGlas Acoustic® as the inner layer, on the other hand, offer all the desired properties: they are stable, sound-insulating, and lightweight all at once.
