Product Information

Highest level of gas barrier properties of any plastic

Resins/Films Vinyl Acetate Derivatives

EVAL™ (resins and film)

General name
Ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer
Sales format
Pellets and single-layer film
Examples

As a world first, in 1972 Kuraray developed and subsequently started manufacturing EVAL™, an ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) resin. Featuring superior gas barrier properties unmatched by any other plastic, EVAL™ is used widely in food packaging containers. It is being used increasingly in a wide variety of applications, such as for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agricultural produce and industrial products. EVAL™ is also adopted in automotive plastic fuel tanks.

Applications

Food packaging materials, medical packaging materials, automotive plastic fuel tanks, under-floor heating pipes, containers for agrochemicals, soil fumigating film, vacuum insulation panels, districted energy pipes, etc.

Characteristics

Gas barrier properties

Excellent barrier properties against the permeation of gases including oxygen

Solvent/chemical substances barrier

Blocks solvents and chemical substances

Aroma retention

Excellent barrier for flavor and aroma preservation

Transparency

Transparent package for content visibility

Chemical resistance

Minimal absorption of solvents

Low thermal conductivity

Low thermal conductivity compared with aluminum foil
