Examples

PLANTIC™ is a Biomass-derived gas barrier material created through collaborative research between industry and academia in Australia. Since it was commercialized in 2003, PLANTIC™ has gained recognition for its high biomass content, and has been adopted as an environmentally friendly material by major retailers and food manufacturers in Australia, Europe and North America.

Applications

Food packaging

Chilled food distribution (perishables, seafood, fresh meat, ham/sausage, raw pasta, cheese, etc.)
Nuts, snacks, confectioneries

Industrial materials, etc.

Characteristics

A multilayer sheet laminated with polyethylene (PE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or skin layers on both sides of a special starch-derived biodegradable gas barrier layer rich in straight-chain amylose.
Gas barrier monolayer is also available.

Excellent formability. Optimal for containers and trays, blister packaging, and vacuum deep-drawing packaging. Used in MAP packaging and gas exchange packaging due to its high gas barrier performance.

The barrier layer (single layer) can be laminated with paper, polylactic acid (PLA), cellulose film, Bio PET and other substances. Enables the creation of a packaging material with biodegradability and compostability.

Also available in barrier sealant grade laminated with a starch-derived barrier layer and sealant layer.
