Overview
Kuraray offers a variety of hook-and-loop fasteners with different shapes. MAGIC TAPE™ is the standard hook-and-loop fastener, whereas FREEMAGIC™ is a type with hooks and loops alternately piled on the same surface. Both types are flame-resistant and have been certified by the “Oeko-Tex Standard 100” for textile safety.

It is a high-quality hook-and-loop fastener created through years of experience and technology. It is convenient as it firmly closes with just a press and can be easily peeled off. It is also lightweight, durable, and can be cut to the desired size. As a fastening system with numerous advantages, it is utilized in a wide range of fields, from apparel and household goods to industrial products.
Traditional woven hook-and-loop fasteners used polyurethane resin, which required organic solvents, as a reinforcing back-coating agent to maintain engagement strength and prevent durability degradation due to fraying during washing. However, Kuraray Fastening has established a new environmentally friendly production method that does not use polyurethane back-coating agents, reducing CO2 emissions in our production process by approximately 30% compared to the conventional process.
Based on this new production method, we have expanded our product lineup to include FREEMAGIC™ hook-and-loop fastener with both hook and loop functions on a single tape, heat-resistant types (using PPS for hook, loop, and base material, providing excellent heat resistance and flame retardancy), and high-breaking types (suitable for high-strength binding applications with improved breaking strength). We have also developed new product that use recycled materials for some of the raw materials. In 2023, we obtained RCS (Recycled Claim Standard) certification, an international recycling labeling standard, for MAGIC TAPE™ recycled type. In 2024, we added FREEMAGIC™ recycled type to our lineup, promoting further proposals to customers as a sustainable product contributing to the realization of a circular society.
