Nevertheless, many behavioral incidents still occurred, and continuous efforts are needed in the future. In the wake of a series of fire accidents involving explosions occurred at plants outside Japan since 2019, we initiated emergency safety audits.

Environment	Global warming prevention	Japan: Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 【GHG emission intensity index】 Add at least 1% to the GHG emission intensity index1 from the previous year. Overseas: Energy consumption 【Energy intensity index】 Add at least 1% to the energy intensity index from the previous year	Energy Products and services	◎	In Japan, we implemented measures to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 21,000 tons-CO₂. As a result, domestic GHG emissions decreased, but the GHG emission intensity index did not meet the target of the mid-term plan. On the other hand, the overseas energy intensity index declined.
	Effective Utilization of Water Resources	Overseas: Water (excluding sea water) consumption 【Water (excluding sea water) usage amount index】 Add at least 1% to the water (excluding sea water) usage amount index from the previous year	Water sources in region	○	Overseas water consumption was almost the same as the previous year, but the water usage amount index declined. Although we have not set a concrete target in Japan, we strove to make effective use.
	Management of chemical substance emission	Japan: Emission of PRTR chemical substances designated by the Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA) Reduce the amount of JCIA-designated PRTR substance emissions to less than 957 tons	Emission into atmosphere	◎	Emissions of PRTR chemical substances (substances subject to the law and voluntarily controlled chemical substances designed by the JCIA) in Japan were lower than the previous year's results, but the target for fiscal 2019 in the mid-term plan was not achieved. Overseas, each production site complied with its own chemical emissions regulations.
	Effective Utilization of Waste	Japan: Amount of waste generated [Amount of waste reduction measures] Reduce waste by the equivalent of 1% relative to FY2016 level (900 tons) or more [Amount of landfill disposal] Reduce the amount of landfill disposal to less than the FY2016 result (251 tons)	Wastewater and waste Raw materials	◎	The Kuraray Group in Japan achieved the target of waste reduction amount for the medium-term plan. However, the amount of landfill disposal did not reach the target. It has been maintained “an effective utilization rate of waste of 90% or higher, and final landfill disposal rate of 1% or lower,” which it has continued to achieve since 2011. Kuraray affiliates overseas complied with the legal requirements of each country.
	Environmental Accounting	-	Overall	○	Investments for environmental conservation purposes totaled ¥1,674 million (¥1,153 million for the previous year), while environmental conservation expenses totaled ¥2,978 million (¥2,402 million for the previous year). WEB
Workplaces	Personnel policy allowing employees to feel work is worth accomplishing	Provision of growth opportunities to employees	Training and education	〇	As part of fostering human resources who can actively take part in conducting business internationally, group training was provided for the personnel in the classes of department general managers and section managers. Short-term training and other training programs were undertaken for staff-level personnel, participated by about 30 persons from the Kuraray Group inside and outside of Japan.

Also, flexible working styles such as flextime systems and administered homeworking were introduced.
