Kuraray's Kurashiki Plant is staging the "Christmas Fantasy 2008," an event for decorating and lighting a 50-year-old, 15-meter-high Himalayan cedar (standing at the plant's main entrance) with some 4,000 lights, providing members of the local community with an opportunity to delight in the spirit of Christmas.

This year marks the 17th time the event has been held since it originally started in 1990 (it was previously not held for two years). With broad-based popularity and support, Kuraray Christmas Fantasy has become a winter tradition for the local community.

The tree-lighting ceremony, held on December 12, featured an appearance by "Kuraray-chan"—the alpaca made familiar in Kuraray's recent television commercial—which brought cheers from the crowd.
