In April 2005, Kuraray Co., Ltd. decided to build a retaining wall as a tidal-surge countermeasure at its Okayama Plant. After receiving approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, construction began in May and will be completed at the end of July.
When a typhoon struck the Inland Sea region last year, the associated tidal surge caused a great deal of sea water to flood the Okayama Plant through a nearby mooring facility, causing major damage.
To prevent a reoccurrence, a retaining wall was built on the plant grounds near the mooring berth.
This retaining wall will minimize flooding damage within the plant from future typhoons, ensuring stability of operation and a stable supply of products to users.
