On August 23, Kuraray Medical Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hideo Horii; hereafter Kuraray Medical), licensed Koyo Sangyo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Soichi Funayama; hereafter Koyo Sangyo) to use the manufacturing technology Kuraray Medical developed for wound dressing material(*).
The wound dressing material, developed by Kuraray Medical, is manufactured at Kuraray's Kurashiki Plant and marketed to medical institutions nationwide.
Kuraray Medical's wound dressing material includes such products that use alginic acid obtained from seaweed, and original processing technology, which gives it a sponge-like structure. Medical institutions use this wound dressing material in the treatment of bedsores and ulcers, burns, lesions, and other wounds, to protect the wounds, maintain moisture, promote healing, and reduce pain.
Using the technology licensed from Kuraray Medical, Koyo Sangyo is aiming for government approval to commence manufacturing and sales in April 2006. After approval, Koyo Sangyo plans to market wound dressing material produced at their CHIBA HERUSU FACTORY both in Japan and overseas. Until approval is received, Koyo Sangyo will market wound dressing material manufactured by Kuraray Medical.
